Pack 501 Community Service

One of the tennants of Scouting is Community Service.
Cub Scout Pack 501 is proud to be able to give back to the community and nature.

As Pack 501 begins, it will share its Community Service Projects here.

2013 Community Service Projects

Pack 501 is off and running in 2013 with our Community Service Projects!!

Early in the year several of our scouts and leaders performed trash pick up duties at Leesylvania State Park.

A small group of our older Scouts and Leaders served in the Presidential Inauguration festivities, performing support at the crosswalks in the "Beast" along the parade route.

In early March, members of the Pack donated, collected and built Easter Baskets for the Easter distribution at the Sacred Heart Foodbank.
Later, members of the Pack also helped out at the foodbank distribution itself too.

In April, several of the boys, parents and leaders planted 500 pine tree saplings at Prince William Forest in order to help reseed one of the open areas of the park.

In June, the Pack performed at clean up during Day Camp at Leesylvania State Park and retired two flags during the Quantico Flag Retirement Ceremony.

In July, our Webelos built additional benches at Camp Goshen.

We performed 2 Flag Ceremonies this summer for the Potomac Nationals.

On Labor Day, we performed a clean up of Lake Ridge Park and Marina before enjoying our end of summer picnic.

We have submitted our paperwork for the Adopt A Highway program. We have been approved for all of Neabsco Road between Rt 1 and Leesylvania State Park. Now we are just waiting for the sign to go up so that we can schedule our first trash pick-up.

We ended the year with "adopting" several children at Christmas time from the newly reopened ACTS Emergency Shelter in Triangle.

2012 Community Service Projects

As we close 2012, we are proud to share that Pack 501 has performed more than 240 Community Service Hours in its first year as a Pack!!

December 2012, ACTS Families in Crisis Shelter : Family Adoption & Children's Room
Pack 501 adopted several families from ACTS this holiday season.
Also, as part of the first phase of making over the Children's Room in the Homeless shelter, Pack 501 donated several storage containers, books, games, and similar materials. (Star Wars puzzles and games were definately part of it all. How could it not be?!)

At the Pack's December Pack Meeting/Holiday Party, we collected toys and gifts as well as started on supplies for the Children's Room at the ACTS Families In Crisis shelter.
The scouts got to wrap the presents themselves and were very excited!
The Cubmaster's minivan was filled and the spillover took up the entire back seat of our COR's car.
Great job Pack 501!

Special Delivery to the staff at ACTS.
The ladies were overwhelmed with the number of presents and supplies that the Pack provided. A lot of people are going to be very happy for the holidays that would not have been within out the help.
Go Scouters!

Fall 2012
Before our Pack Meetings, various Scouts come before our monthly Pack meetings and walk around the outside of the school to pick up litter.

Saturday, Oct. 3rd and Saturday, Oct. 10th: Scouting For Food
Each year, Scouts collect 10's of thousands of food for the needy.
This year, Pack 501 participated in its first Scouting For Food drive.
We collected 920 pounds of food and about 30 pounds of pet food!!!
The food was delivered to the local ACTS and the pet food was delivered to the Prince William County Animal Shelter.
Thank you to everyone in the Leesylvania Elementary School area who supported this effort!

Sunday, Sept. 23rd: Pack 501 teamed up with Potomac Mills to hold our First Annual Red Cross Blood Drive.
We had a full schedule with lots of donors! Thanks to their support the Red Cross collected enough blood to save over 30 lives!!

Monday, Sept. 3rd: Lake Ridge Park and Marina Clean Up
On Labor Day, our Pack comes together for an end of summer picnic.
Before our picnic, as a thanks to the park, our Pack walks around the area and trails to pick up trash.
This year we gathered several bags of trash as we enjoyed the beautiful Lakeridge Park and Marina.

August 25th - Shoot A Trooper @ Star Wars Celebrations VI
In August, one of our Scouts became a member of the Galactic Academy and joined them for some time as a target in the Shoot A Trooper both to help raise money for the Peter Mayhew Foundation.

Friday, April 5th - Leesylvania Park Trash Pick Up
Some of our Scouts had a day off from school. To help prepare for Spring and show how Scouts "Leave No Trace", they headed over to nearby Leesylvania State Park and did a trash pick up!

Saturday, March 31st - Easter Food Bank at Sacred Heart
The Scouts came out before their Pinewood Derby to help pass out Easter baskets and Easter hams along with the typical fare at Sacred Heart's Food Bank.
